About Beaver Lake
Beaver Lake is a common name, and there are two lakes in Pictou County with that name, and there are actually over a dozen lakes in Canada with this name.
One is located west of Hunters lake and flows into the East River. The other is located south east of McKinnon Lake, this one flows south eventually into West River St. Marys,
The origin of the name Beaver Lake although not well-documented, is probably based on the abundance of beavers in the area. These industrious animals are native to Nova Scotia and are well known for building dams that create large wet lands (and often lakes), that dramatically alter the landscape. It was common for early European settlers to name lakes after natural features.
The area around Beaver Lake is characterized by a landscape of rolling hills and forests, which are part of the larger Appalachian physiographic region. The land is a mix of well-drained and poorly-drained soils, often with coarse textures.
