Historical Maps are a great resource to help learn geography at a particular point in time. They can be used to locate exactly where someone’s ancestors lived, as well as the layout of neighborhood and surrounding areas. Here we share old historic maps of Pictou County related geography that are either available to view online or download.

1867 Pictou Harbour Map
This hand drawn map created in 1867 of Pictou Harbour features bearings and distances between various landmarks (and public wharfs) around the harbour.
Places included on the map include Abercrombie Point, Fisher’s Grant, Public wharf (Pictou Waterfront), McPherson’s Point, and the Pictou Bar Lighthouse.
The map is created with South pointing to the top of the map (unlike most traditionally maps that have north up). Thus, as you view the map you are actually situated around the center of the Town of Pictou.
