THE PHILADELPHIA GRANT
“Beginning at the southwest bounds of lands granted to Frederick Wallet DesBarres, and running west 550 chains on ungranted lands; thence south 580 chains on ungranted lands, and on the townships of Londonderry; thence east 800 chains on the township of Onslow; thence south 900 chains on said township and on ungranted lands; thence 1,000 chains on ungranted lands; thence north 932 chains more or less til it meets the Westernmost river of Pictou; thence along the course of the said river on the north side til it meets the westernmost boundary of land granted to Alexander McNutt and associates; thence running north on said lands til it meets the sea-sihore: thence the course of the sea-shore till it meets the northeast boundary granted to J.F.W. DesBarres: thence on his eastern boundary 480 chains on said lands, to the first mentioned boundary; together with the islands adjacent, containing on the whole 200,000 acres, more or less.”
Note: One chain is equal to 66 feet.
